Edward Rollins Foreman Morgan and his wife, Hannah More Vance Morgan (shown below) homesteaded in Kansas in 1873, coming there from Short Creek, West Virginia. | Morgans pioneered in the mountains of West Virginia. And homesteaded in Kansas. The first European settler in West Virginia was a Welshman named Morgan Morgan. His frontier cabin has been restored:

The historical marker reads: "Morgan Cabin: Originally built 1731-34 as second home of Morgan Morgan, first white settler in West Virginia. Rebuilt with some of original logs in 1976 as a State and County Bicentennial project. It was here during the Revolution that James Morgan, the grandson of Col. Morgan Morgan, was shot and killed by a group of Tories. Since then, this area has been known as Torytown." Across the road stands the stone farm house of the pioneer's son, Zackquill Morgan, and Morgan Morgan is buried in the nearby cemetery of Christ Church in Bunker Hill.
